President Droupadi Murmu Returns to Delhi After Historic Visit to Africa
President Droupadi Murmu has returned to New Delhi after a significant three-nation tour of Algeria, Mauritania, and Malawi. The visit, from October 13 to 19, aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations and enhance cooperation between India and these African countries.
Visit to Malawi
President Murmu concluded her tour in Malawi, where she met with President Lazarus Chakwera. They discussed various areas of cooperation and signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) on Arts and Culture, Youth Matters, Sports, and Pharmaceutical Cooperation. President Murmu also announced India’s support for establishing a permanent Artificial Limb Fitment Centre in Malawi.
Engagements and Ceremonial Farewell
During her stay in Malawi, President Murmu praised the Indian community for their role in strengthening ties between the two nations. She was warmly received by Vice President Michael Usi and other dignitaries at Kamuzu International Airport, where she enjoyed a traditional cultural performance.
Historic Significance
This visit marked the first-ever by an Indian President to these three African nations, following the African Union’s inclusion as a permanent member of the G20 during India’s presidency. President Murmu was accompanied by Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar and MPs Mukeshkumar Dalal and Atul Garg.
