Dili, Timor Leste, August 10: President Droupadi Murmu was honored with the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the highest civilian award in Timor Leste, on Saturday. The official account of Rashtrapati Bhavan shared the news on X, stating, “President Jose Ramos-Horta of Timor-Leste conferred the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the country’s highest civilian award, upon President Droupadi Murmu.”

The award recognizes President Murmu’s achievements in public service and her dedication to education, social welfare, and the empowerment of women.

After receiving the award, President Murmu expressed that the honor reflects the strong friendship between India and Timor-Leste. She arrived in Timor Leste after visiting Fiji and New Zealand. President Jose Ramos-Horta warmly welcomed her at the airport, and cheerful children greeted her along the way.

President Murmu held a bilateral meeting with President Ramos-Horta in Dili, discussing opportunities to enhance cooperation between India and Timor Leste. This visit marks the first-ever Head of State level visit from India to Timor Leste.

During her visit, President Murmu paid floral tributes to former Indian President V.V. Giri on his birth anniversary and addressed the Indian Community Reception in Dili. She was also given a ceremonial reception and guard of honor at the Presidential Palace.

Before arriving in Timor Leste, President Murmu visited New Zealand and Fiji. In Fiji, she received the highest civilian award, ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji,’ which she described as an honor reflecting the deep ties of friendship between the two nations.

President Murmu’s six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor-Leste began on August 4, departing from New Delhi.
