President Droupadi Murmu Meets Timor Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta in Historic Visit
President Droupadi Murmu held a bilateral meeting with Timor Leste President Jose Ramos-Horta in Dili. This meeting highlighted the strong connection between India and Timor Leste and explored opportunities to enhance bilateral cooperation.
This visit marks the first-ever Head of State level visit from India to Timor Leste. President Murmu was warmly received by President Jose Ramos-Horta at the airport, and cheerful children greeted her on the way. She was also given a ceremonial reception and guard of honour at the Presidential Palace in Dili.
President Murmu’s visit to Timor Leste is part of her three-nation tour, which also included New Zealand and Fiji. In Fiji, she was honoured with the highest civilian award, ‘Companion of the Order of Fiji’, reflecting the deep ties of friendship between the two nations.
President Murmu departed from New Delhi on August 4 for this six-day visit to Fiji, New Zealand, and Timor Leste.
