President Droupadi Murmu Honoured with Timor-Leste’s Highest Award

President Droupadi Murmu was awarded the Grand Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the highest civilian award of Timor-Leste, for her significant contributions to public service, education, social welfare, and women’s empowerment. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed pride in this recognition, emphasizing the strong ties and mutual respect between India and Timor-Leste.

President Murmu arrived in Timor-Leste on Saturday after visiting Fiji and New Zealand. She was warmly welcomed by President Jose Ramos-Horta at the airport, with cheerful children greeting her along the way. During her visit, she held a bilateral meeting with President Ramos-Horta in Dili, discussing opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two nations.

This visit marks the first-ever Head of State level visit from India to Timor-Leste. President Murmu also addressed the Indian Community Reception in Dili and was accorded a ceremonial reception and guard of honour at the Presidential Palace.
