President Droupadi Murmu Highlights India-Malawi Business Opportunities

On October 17, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the India-Malawi Business Meet in Lilongwe, Malawi, emphasizing the strong ties between India and Malawi. She noted that India is the fourth largest trading partner of Malawi, with over USD 500 million in investments across various sectors.

During her speech, President Murmu highlighted the potential for collaboration in agriculture, mining, energy, and tourism. She pointed out that Malawi’s natural resources and fertile land, combined with India’s large consumer base, create opportunities for synergy between the two nations.

President Murmu also mentioned that the partnership extends beyond government levels, with Indian companies, both multinational and SMEs, investing in Africa. This visit marks the first-ever state visit from India to Malawi, where she was warmly received by Malawi’s Vice President, Michael Usi, and other dignitaries.

President Murmu was accompanied by Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar and Members of Parliament Mukeshkumar Dalal and Atul Garg. Her visit included a ceremonial welcome and a traditional cultural performance at Kamuzu International Airport.
