President Droupadi Murmu Celebrates 150th Birth Anniversary of Birsa Munda
President Droupadi Murmu has extended her greetings on the eve of the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda, honoring his memory. She announced the start of a year-long celebration for this occasion, known as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’.
President Murmu expressed her respect for Birsa Munda, also known as ‘Dharti Aaba’, and highlighted a growing awareness for tribal pride and constitutional ideals across India. She believes this awareness will lay the foundation for a brighter future for the country, including its tribal communities.
She recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ulihatu last year, marking the first visit by a Prime Minister to the birthplace of Birsa Munda. This visit coincided with the launch of the ‘PM Janjati Adivasi Nyay Maha-Abhiyan’ from Jharkhand.
President Murmu also shared her role in including the tribal language ‘Santhali’ in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution during Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s tenure. She emphasized her commitment to tribal communities, noting the economic self-reliance achieved by many tribal women through self-help groups.
She highlighted the government’s dedication to supporting tribal development, stating that the sky is the limit for their aspirations, with society and the government fully committed to their progress.
