In New Delhi, the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi are set to attend the Dussehra celebrations organized by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee. The event will take place on Saturday, starting at 5:30 PM.
Event Details
Dheeraj Dhar Gupta, the General Secretary of the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee, announced that the event will feature the traditional burning of three effigies. The Ramleela event has been ongoing for the past 8 to 10 days, marking the committee’s 101st year of celebration. The height of the Ravana effigy is typically 70 feet, and security measures have been increased due to the Prime Minister’s attendance, with the Special Protection Group (SPG) overseeing security.
Tallest Ravan Effigy in India
Meanwhile, the Sri Ram Lila Society has constructed the tallest Ravan effigy in India, standing at 211 feet in Dwarka’s Sector 10. Rajesh Gehlot, Chairman of the organizing committee, explained that the effigy symbolizes the increasing sins in society, which will be burned on Dussehra, October 12, 2024. Invitations have been extended to Prime Minister Modi and other BJP leaders.

Dussehra, also known as ‘Vijayadashmi’, celebrates the victory of good over evil, commemorating Lord Rama’s defeat of Ravan. It marks the end of Durga Puja and the nine-day Navratri festival.
