President Droupadi Murmu and CM Mohan Yadav Mourn the Loss of Nine Children in Madhya Pradesh Wall Collapse
New Delhi [India], August 4: The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, expressed her deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of nine children after a wall collapsed on a tent in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district on Sunday morning.
Taking to X, President Murmu said, “I am saddened by the news of the death of many innocent children in a heart-wrenching accident in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh. I pray that God gives strength to the bereaved parents and family members to bear this pain. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured children.”
The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, also expressed his deep sorrow over the incident. According to officials, the wall collapse occurred around 8:30 am, likely due to heavy rain the previous night. CM Yadav instructed the district administration to provide financial assistance to the affected families.
Minister Govind Rajput stated that the administration is actively addressing the issue. He mentioned that the CM has announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured. Rajput added, “The administration is actively working. Rajput also instructed the District Collector of Sagar to take preventive measures to avoid such incidents in the future. Senior officials and district administration authorities, including District Collector Deepak Arya, reached the spot to oversee the rescue operations. Arya confirmed that local police and rescue teams were on-site and that two injured children were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
In a related incident, four students died after an old wall of a house next to a private school collapsed due to rain in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa on Saturday, August 3. Five students, including a woman, were trapped under the wall, according to police reports.
