President Biden Criticizes Former President Trump Over Hurricane Helene Relief Fund Mismanagement

US President Joe Biden has criticized former President Donald Trump for allegedly mismanaging funds meant for victims of Hurricane Helene. The hurricane struck the southeastern US in late September, causing significant damage and loss of life. Biden accused Trump of redirecting relief funds during his administration to manage immigration issues, as reported by major US media outlets.

Biden shared an article from ‘The Washington Post’ on social media, calling Trump a liar for reallocating disaster funds. He assured that his administration is working hard to ensure that those affected by the hurricane receive the necessary aid. The White House released a statement countering false reports about the mismanagement of relief funds, highlighting the Biden-Harris administration’s efforts in disaster management.

The statement detailed that over 6,400 federal personnel were deployed, and more than $110 million in federal assistance was provided to survivors, with more aid planned. Former President Trump, while speaking in Georgia, claimed that funds meant for hurricane relief were diverted to support illegal migrants, a claim the White House has refuted.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) clarified that disaster response efforts are funded through the Disaster Relief Fund, which has not been diverted for non-disaster purposes. The issue of illegal migrants has become a significant topic ahead of the upcoming US Presidential elections in November.

Hurricane Helene caused severe flooding, leaving many missing and over a million without power. Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing.
