President Biden and Prime Minister Modi Discuss Future of Quad and Strengthen US-India Partnership

US President Joe Biden assured that the Quad alliance will continue beyond the US elections in November, during a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Biden said, “Way beyond November,” while putting his hand on Modi’s shoulder.

India will host the next Quad Summit in 2025, as the schedules of the leaders did not permit hosting it this year. The 2024 US Presidential Election is scheduled for November 5, 2024, with Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee and former President Donald Trump as the Republican candidate.

On Saturday, President Biden hosted a quadrilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. Biden announced new initiatives for the Indo-Pacific, including providing new maritime technologies to Quad partners, launching cooperation between coast guards, and expanding the Quad fellowship to include students from Southeast Asia.

Earlier, President Biden and PM Modi engaged in a bilateral meeting, affirming the strong US-India Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. They highlighted the importance of democracy, freedom, the rule of law, human rights, pluralism, and equal opportunities. The leaders commended the progress in the US-India Major Defense Partnership and expressed optimism about the future of their countries’ collaboration.
