Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian sprinter Preeti Pal for winning the bronze medal in the 100m T35 event at the Paris Paralympics. Preeti secured third place with a personal best time of 14.21 seconds.

PM Modi shared his excitement on his official X handle, stating, “More glory for India as Preeti Pal wins a Bronze medal in the 100m T35 event at the #Paralympics2024. Congratulations to her. This success will certainly motivate budding athletes.”

Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandviya also praised Preeti’s performance, writing, “Preeti Pal delivers a stunning performance with a Bronze medal in the 100m T35 event at the #Paralympics2024! Your hard work & spirit shine brightly. The entire nation beams with pride! Congratulations.”

China’s Xia Zhou and Qianqian Guo won the gold and silver medals, respectively, with Zhou clocking a season-best time of 13.58 seconds and Guo achieving her personal best of 13.74 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Avani Lekhara won gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final, and shooter Mona Agarwal secured the bronze in the same event. India started the Paris Paralympics with two medals in the women’s 10m air rifle event.

This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes competing across 12 sports. The nation aims to surpass its previous achievements from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, where India won 19 medals, including five golds, eight silvers, and six bronzes.
