Indian para sprinter Preeti Pal has made history at the Paris Paralympics 2024 by winning two bronze medals. She became the first Indian woman to win two medals in track and field events at the Paralympics or Olympics. Preeti won her first bronze in the 200m T-35 race, finishing with a personal best time of 30.01 seconds. She expressed her pride and emotion as she saw the Indian flag rise.

Earlier, Preeti had won another bronze in the Women’s T35 100m race, clocking 14.21 seconds, also a personal best. She thanked the Paralympic Committee of India, Olympic Gold Quest, Target Olympic Podium Scheme, and Sports Authority of India for their support and expressed her aim to win a gold medal for the nation.

Other Indian athletes also shone at the Paralympics. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara won India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best score of 249.7 points. Manish Narwal secured a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event with 234.9 points. Nishad Kumar won silver in the men’s high jump T47 event with a leap of 2.04m, and Yogesh Kathuniya added another silver in the men’s Discus Throw F56 final. Shuttler Nitesh Kumar won gold in the men’s singles SL3 category, defeating Great Britain’s Daniel Bethell.
