New Delhi, India – President Draupadi Murmu praised Indian para-sprinter Preeti Pal for winning her second medal at the Paris Paralympics 2024. Preeti clinched the bronze medal in the 200m T-35 race, finishing in 30.01 seconds, her personal best. This achievement makes her the first Indian woman to win two medals in track and field events at the Paralympics or Olympics.

President Murmu congratulated Preeti on social media, highlighting her exceptional achievement and the pride she brings to India. Preeti had earlier won a bronze medal in the Women’s T35 100m race, clocking 14.21 seconds, also her personal best.

Preeti expressed her happiness after winning her second medal, stating, ‘Tried to give my best and I am happy that I won another medal. People trolled me after I won the medal in 100m and that inspired me a lot to do better.’

Preeti’s dedication and hard work were evident as she also excelled at the World Para Athletics Championship 2024, winning bronze medals in both the 100m and 200m events, securing her quota for the Paris Paralympics.

India has so far secured seven medals at the ongoing Paris Paralympics, including one gold, two silvers, and four bronzes. Other notable achievements include Nishad Kumar’s silver in the men’s high jump T47, Rubina’s bronze in the P2-Women’s 10M Air Pistol SH-1 final, and Avani Lekhara’s gold in the women’s 10m air rifle final.

This year, India has sent its largest Paralympics contingent ever, with 84 athletes across 12 sports, aiming to surpass its previous achievements in Tokyo 2020, where India won 19 medals.
