In New Delhi, BJP MP and Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT), Praveen Khandelwal, emphasized the importance of the direct selling industry in India. He highlighted its potential to boost economic growth, create jobs, and empower women.
During a roundtable conference hosted by CAIT, Khandelwal described direct selling as a critical sector that aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for women empowerment, Digital India, and financial inclusion. Direct sales involve transactions directly with the end-user, bypassing middlemen or e-commerce platforms.
CAIT announced the creation of a task force with stakeholders from the direct selling sector to develop plans for government engagement. The direct selling industry employs 8.6 million people, with 40% being women, promoting micro-entrepreneurship and family empowerment through better education, nutrition, and healthcare.
Government initiatives like the Direct Selling Guidelines (2016), Consumer Protection Act (2019), and Direct Selling Rules (2021) have provided stability to the sector. CAIT called for states to notify direct selling guidelines, reduce unnecessary compliance, and protect legitimate businesses from undue penalties.
Khandelwal stressed the need for collaboration between the government, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to unlock the industry's potential while protecting consumer interests. CAIT previously raised concerns about quick commerce platforms undermining India's retail economy and urged regulatory bodies to ensure fair trade practices.
Praveen Khandelwal is a Member of Parliament (MP) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Secretary General of the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). He is involved in promoting the interests of traders and businesses in India.
Direct selling is a way of selling products directly to consumers, without going through a traditional retail store. It often involves people selling products to their friends, family, or through home parties.
CAIT stands for the Confederation of All India Traders. It is an organization that represents the interests of traders and small businesses in India.
Economic growth refers to the increase in the production of goods and services in a country over time. It is important because it can lead to more jobs and better living standards for people.
Empowering women means giving them the tools, opportunities, and support they need to succeed and make their own choices. In the context of direct selling, it means helping women become successful business owners.
Prime Minister Modi's vision includes making India a more prosperous and developed country. This involves creating more jobs, supporting businesses, and improving the lives of all Indians.
A task force is a group of people who are brought together to work on a specific task or problem. In this case, the task force will work with the government to support the direct selling industry.
Compliance means following the rules and regulations set by the government. Businesses need to comply with these rules to operate legally and safely.
