Praful Patel Calls for Respect for Women Amid FIR Against Sunil Raut

In Nagpur, Maharashtra, NCP leader Praful Patel emphasized the importance of respecting women following an FIR against Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sunil Raut. Raut allegedly made derogatory remarks about a female candidate. Patel highlighted the Maharashtra government’s ‘Ladli Behen Yojana’ and Prime Minister Modi’s decade-long efforts in women’s empowerment.

Patel stated, “Women should be respected. ‘Nari Shakti’ makes up half of our population. Today, we are coming to the forefront. Maharashtra Govt has issued schemes like ‘Ladli Behen’, this is not just for money but to increase respect for women & self-confidence.”

He also mentioned the recent Constitutional amendment for 33% women’s representation in legislative bodies, set to be implemented after the 2029 delimitation process. “PM Modi has worked for women empowerment for 10 years. Other parties made tall claims but never implemented it. In 2029, Constitutional amendments were made for 33% women representation in Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha. This is going to be implemented after delimitation,” he added.

The FIR against Sunil Raut, a candidate from the Vikhroli constituency, was filed under Sections 79, 351(2), and 356(2) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Raut reportedly called his opponent, Suvarna Karanje, a “goat” during an election rally. The Maharashtra elections are scheduled for November 20, with results on November 23.
