PR Sreejesh Discusses Indian Goalkeepers and Upcoming Hockey Tournaments
Indian hockey legend PR Sreejesh shared his thoughts on the performance of Indian goalkeepers Krishna Bahadur Pathak and Suraj Karkera. He believes the FIH Hockey Pro League, starting in November, will be the true test for them. Sreejesh, who retired after India’s bronze medal at the Paris Olympics, noted that the Asian Champions Trophy is not the best platform to evaluate the goalies as India is a dominant team in Asia.
Sreejesh expressed excitement for the Pro League, which runs from November 30 to June 29, with matches in Bhubaneshwar, Odisha, in February. As the new coach of the Indian men’s junior team, he aims to develop talented goalkeepers for the 2025 junior World Cup.
He also commented on the expansion of the Hockey India League (HIL) to include six women’s teams, highlighting the growth of women’s hockey. The HIL will return after seven years, running from December 2024 to February 2025, featuring 8 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams.
