Potential Terrorist Threat at PTI Protest in Islamabad

Islamabad, Pakistan is on high alert due to a potential terrorist attack targeting the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest. The National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA) has issued a warning about a militant group, "Fitna al-Khawarij," previously known as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), that recently crossed into Pakistan from Afghanistan. These militants may use the PTI gathering as an opportunity for an attack.

Security Measures in Place

In response to the threat, security has been significantly increased across Islamabad. Authorities are on high alert to protect the protest site. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi informed PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar that no sit-ins or rallies would be allowed during the visit of a high-ranking Belarusian delegation, led by President Alexander Lukashenko, from November 24 to November 27.

Government Actions

The government has imposed Section 144 across Punjab for three days and deployed thousands of security personnel in Islamabad. Major routes to the Red Zone, including Srinagar Highway and GT Road, have been sealed. Containers block entry points, and security forces are stationed at sensitive locations, especially around D-Chowk.

Additional Precautions

Internet and mobile services are partially suspended in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Punjab. Public transport, including metro bus services in Islamabad and Rawalpindi, is halted. Bus terminals at Faizabad are barricaded to prevent security breaches during the protest and the high-profile visit.

The heightened security measures reflect the government's concern over the potential terrorist threat and the need to ensure public safety amidst rising tensions in the capital.
