Polio Cases Rise in Pakistan

In Pakistan, two new polio cases have been reported, increasing the total number of cases to 39 this year. These cases were identified in the Sanghar and Mirpur Khas districts of Sindh province, confirmed by Pakistan’s National Reference Lab of National Institutes of Health.

Recent Surge in Balochistan

On Friday, three new polio cases were reported in Balochistan, bringing the province’s total to 20 cases this year. The affected children, aged nine months, 18 months, and five years, are from the districts of Chaman, Pishin, and Nushki, respectively, and have been left disabled by the disease.

Nationwide Concerns

The recent increase in polio cases has raised concerns about the ongoing efforts to eradicate the disease in Pakistan. Quetta city has reported three polio cases, with 37 sewerage samples testing positive for the virus. In total, 11 polio cases and 65 positive sewerage samples have been reported from the Quetta block.

As of now, Balochistan is the most affected region with 20 cases. Sindh has reported 10 cases, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has four, and Islamabad and Punjab have each reported one case.
