Police Encounter in Chennai: History-Sheeter Balaji Shot Dead

In Chennai, history-sheeter Kakka Thoppu Balaji was shot dead by police during an encounter in Viyasarpadi. The incident occurred during a vehicle check at Mullaiagar Checkpost around 4:30 am. Police encountered a vehicle with two people, one of whom was Balaji. When asked to step out, Balaji fled in the car and fired at the police, who returned fire, hitting him in the chest.

Balaji was initially taken to Stanley Hospital, where he was declared dead, and then to Royapet Government Hospital. Police recovered a sickle and 10 kg of ganja from the vehicle. The other suspect, Sathyamoorthy, is being interrogated. Balaji had 58 pending cases, including six for murder, 17 for attempted murder, and one related to drug dealing.

North Chennai JC Pravesh Kumar, Pulianthope DC Muthukumar, and the Forensic team inspected the encounter spot. The investigation office will submit a report to the Magistrate, and further investigation is underway. Relatives of Balaji condemned the police, alleging murder.

This is the second police encounter in Chennai after BSP Leader Armstrong’s murder, where another history-sheeter, Thiruvengadam, was encountered.
