In Assam’s Kamrup district, a mob attacked police and government officials during an eviction assessment, injuring several personnel. The incident occurred in Sonapur Kachutali area, where around 1500 people surrounded the team and pelted stones.

Details of the Incident

Nitul Khataniar, Circle Officer of Sonapur Revenue Circle, was among the injured. He explained that the mob was equipped with bamboo sticks and sharp weapons, and several vehicles were damaged in the attack.

Response and Security Measures

Police resorted to blank firing shots to control the mob. Additional security forces have been deployed to maintain law and order in the area.

Background

Earlier, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration had conducted an eviction drive in the area against illegal encroachers. The previous drives were conducted peacefully.
