PM Narendra Modi’s Busy First 100 Days: Visits to Russia, Ukraine, and Brunei
In the first 100 days of his third term, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been very active on the international stage. He started with a foreign policy push at the G7 Summit in Italy, held from June 13-15 in Apulia, where he had bilateral talks with major world leaders.
On July 8, PM Modi visited Russia at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin for the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. During this visit, he discussed various bilateral relations, including trade and defense deals, and was awarded Russia’s highest civilian honor, the Order of Saint Andrew the Apostle.
PM Modi then visited Ukraine on August 23 at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. In September, he made historic visits to Singapore and Brunei, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. His visit to Brunei coincided with the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Brunei.
Additionally, PM Modi visited Poland on August 21-22, where he met with his Polish counterpart Donald Tusk and the President of Poland. He also engaged with the Indian community there. On July 10, he arrived in Austria for further diplomatic engagements.
India hosted the third ‘Voice of the Global South’ Summit on August 18, with over 120 countries participating. For the first time, India also hosted the UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting, which was inaugurated on July 21 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu was conferred with ‘The Order of Fiji,’ the highest civilian award of Fiji, on August 6 by President Ratu Wiliame Maivalili Katonivere. She also received the Grand-Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste, the highest civilian award of Timor-Leste, on August 10.
