PM Narendra Modi Visits Moscow for India-Russia Summit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow for a two-day visit to Russia. He was welcomed at the airport by Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov, who accompanied him to The Carlton Hotel. Members of the Indian diaspora gathered to greet PM Modi, waving Indian flags and chanting his name.

PM Modi is in Moscow to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, invited by Russian President Vladimir Putin. Upon arrival, PM Modi expressed his eagerness to strengthen the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ between India and Russia. He shared his thoughts on social media, stating, ‘Landed in Moscow. Looking forward to further deepening the Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership between our nations, especially in futuristic areas of cooperation. Stronger ties between our nations will greatly benefit our people.’

During his visit, PM Modi will meet with President Putin to discuss various aspects of bilateral cooperation and regional and global issues. He will also attend a community event in Moscow and visit an exhibition center in the VDNKH Complex.

India and Russia have a long-standing relationship, elevated to a ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ in 2010. PM Modi and President Putin have met 16 times over the past decade, with their last meeting in 2022 at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Uzbekistan.

After his visit to Russia, PM Modi will travel to Austria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 40 years. He will meet with Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Chancellor Karl Nehammer to discuss shared ideals of democracy and pluralism.
