PM Narendra Modi Visits Laos for ASEAN-India and East Asia Summits

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Vientiane, the capital of Laos, to attend the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 19th East Asia Summit. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by Vilayvong Bouddakham, the Minister of Home Affairs of Laos, and received a ceremonial Guard of Honour.

PM Modi’s visit to Laos is at the invitation of the Lao Prime Minister, Sonexay Siphandone. This visit marks a decade of India’s Act East Policy, which aims to strengthen ties with Southeast Asian countries. During his two-day visit, PM Modi is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with world leaders on the sidelines of the summits.

Before departing for Laos, PM Modi expressed his anticipation for discussions with ASEAN leaders to review the progress of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and to plan future cooperation. He also highlighted the cultural and civilizational ties between India and the region, enriched by shared heritage such as Buddhism and the Ramayana.

The ASEAN-India Summit will focus on reviewing the progress of India-ASEAN relations and planning future cooperation. The East Asia Summit will provide a platform for leaders to discuss regional issues and build strategic trust.
