PM Narendra Modi Meets Singapore’s Goh Chok Tong to Strengthen India-Singapore Ties

On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Goh Chok Tong, the Emeritus Senior Minister and former Prime Minister of Singapore. PM Modi shared on social media that they had extensive discussions on enhancing the friendship between India and Singapore. He praised Goh Chok Tong for his significant contributions to India-Singapore relations, especially during his tenure as Prime Minister of Singapore.

PM Modi highlighted that Goh Chok Tong initiated the ‘India Fever’ in Singapore, which laid a strong foundation for the bilateral relationship. The two leaders also discussed recent developments and explored ways to further strengthen their cooperation.

During his visit, PM Modi announced the establishment of an Invest India Office in Singapore to assist Singaporean investors. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) noted that this is an opportune time for Singaporean business leaders to understand the opportunities in India.

Four Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were exchanged between India and Singapore, covering cooperation in the semiconductor ecosystem, digital technologies, skill development and education, and healthcare. These MOUs address key areas identified by the India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable.

Additionally, India and Singapore elevated their bilateral relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. PM Modi also met with Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam to discuss further cooperation between the two nations.
