PM Narendra Modi Meets Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the President’s House in Moscow. They shared a warm hug and greeted each other before their private meeting and dinner.
PM Modi arrived in Moscow for a two-day official visit to attend the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit. He was received by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov at the Vnukovo-II airport and given a ceremonial welcome.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted the agenda of PM Modi’s visit, which includes delegation-level talks, meetings with the Indian community, and visits to Rosatom and exhibition space. PM Modi and President Putin have met 16 times over the past decade, with their last meeting in 2022 at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Summit in Uzbekistan.
PM Modi expressed his desire to deepen the ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ between India and Russia. He was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in Moscow, who greeted him with Indian flags and posters. The Ostankino Tower in Moscow was lit up with the Indian tricolour in his honor.
This visit is PM Modi’s first to Russia since the conflict between Moscow and Kyiv began in 2022. He emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the conflict. After his visit to Russia, PM Modi will travel to Austria, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the nation in 40 years.
