PM Narendra Modi Meets Polish Kabaddi Officials in Warsaw
Warsaw, Poland – On August 22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Michal Spiczko, President of the Kabaddi Federation of Poland, and Board member Anna Kalbarczyk. PM Modi praised their efforts in promoting Kabaddi in Poland and Europe. He emphasized the importance of sports in strengthening ties and cultural exchange between India and Poland.
During his address to the Indian community in Warsaw, PM Modi highlighted the connection between India and Poland through Kabaddi. He noted that Kabaddi is a popular sport in Indian villages and has gained significant popularity in Poland. Poland has been the European Kabaddi champion for two consecutive years and is set to host a Kabaddi championship starting August 24.
PM Modi also spoke about the rich tradition of learning about India in Poland, mentioning the presence of Indian studies in Polish universities and the display of quotes from Indian scriptures like the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads in the main library of Warsaw University.
The Poland men’s national team qualified for the 2016 Kabaddi World Cup in Ahmedabad, where they achieved a notable victory against Iran. Two Polish players, Michal Spiczko and Piotr Pamulak, have participated in India’s Pro Kabaddi League, with Spiczko being the first European to play in the league.
