PM Narendra Modi Joins US President Joe Biden for Quad Summit in Delaware

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other world leaders, will arrive in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday morning for the Quad Summit. US President Joe Biden is hosting the leaders of India, Australia, and Japan in his hometown.

Significance of the Summit

This gathering marks the first time President Biden has invited foreign leaders to Wilmington, reflecting his close relationships with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. The leaders have met six times, four of which were in person, since Biden elevated the Quad to the leader level in 2021.

Event Details

The main Quad gathering will take place at Archmere Academy, Biden’s high school alma mater in Claymont, Delaware. The event will include a leaders-level meeting, the Cancer Moonshot event, and a private dinner. Biden aims to showcase his home and share significant moments from his career with the leaders.

Personal Touches

Biden has incorporated personal touches into the two-day event, emphasizing the importance of deep personal relationships in his foreign policy approach. White House National Security Communications Advisor John Kirby noted that Biden is focused on showing the leaders a place and community that shaped him as a public servant and leader.

Future Plans

Originally, India was set to host the event this year, but due to scheduling conflicts with the United Nations General Assembly, the US and India swapped responsibilities. India will now host the next summit in 2025, potentially marking a significant return for Vice President Kamala Harris if she is elected in November.
