PM Narendra Modi Announces New Industrial Cities and Projects to Boost Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced several key decisions taken by the Union Cabinet, including the construction of 12 new industrial cities under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP). These cities will provide significant infrastructure boosts, enhance growth, and create employment opportunities.

Modi highlighted the approval of three new railway projects that will benefit Odisha, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Chhattisgarh by improving the transportation of goods and passenger travel.

The Cabinet also approved financial assistance for hydropower projects in the Northeast, which will ensure sustainability, energy security, and economic growth in the region. Additionally, the rollout of Private FM Radio to 234 cities and towns will enhance access to diverse and local content, promoting creativity and local cultures.

Another significant decision was the expansion of the Central Sector Scheme of the Agriculture Infrastructure Fund, aimed at boosting farmers’ incomes and promoting sustainability in agriculture.

The new industrial cities will be located in Khurpia (Uttarakhand), Rajpura-Patiala (Punjab), Dighi (Maharashtra), Palakkad (Kerala), Agra and Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Gaya (Bihar), Zaheerabad (Telangana), Orvakal and Kopparthy (Andhra Pradesh), and Jodhpur-Pali (Rajasthan). These projects represent a major step forward in enhancing India’s manufacturing capabilities and economic growth.

The hydropower projects in the Northeast will be developed through Joint Venture collaborations between state entities and Central Public Sector Undertakings, with a cumulative hydro capacity of approximately 15,000 MW. The scheme will be funded through 10% Gross Budgetary Support from the Ministry of Power’s total budget.

Home Minister Amit Shah praised the approval of central financial assistance for these hydroelectric projects, stating that it will empower state governments to drive national growth by funding their own hydropower projects.
