PM Narendra Modi and Ministers Discuss India’s Green Hydrogen Future

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 2nd International Conference on Green Hydrogen, urging the global scientific community to help shape policies for the green hydrogen sector. He emphasized India’s achievements in green energy and the potential of green hydrogen to decarbonize various industries.

PM Modi said, “I urge the global scientific community to come together to explore various aspects. Scientists and innovators can suggest changes in public policy to help the green hydrogen sector. We want to make India a global hub for the production, utilization and export of Green Hydrogen.”

He also mentioned that India was the first among the G-20 Nations to fulfill the Paris commitments on green energy, achieving this nine years ahead of the 2030 target. India’s non-financial fossil fuel capacity increased by nearly 300% in the last ten years, and solar energy capacity grew by over 3000% in the same period.

Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Hardeep Singh Puri, highlighted India’s natural advantage in producing Green Hydrogen due to low-cost solar energy and investments in the power grid. He said, “India’s installed solar capacity has increased by 32 times from 2.6 GW in 2014 to 85.5 GW, and the country also has one of the largest synchronous grids in the world, capable of handling intermittent renewable energy.”

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, also addressed the summit, stating that green hydrogen is the way forward to sustainability. He said, “Integrating green hydrogen into India’s energy mix and industrial processes will enhance our global positioning and achieve environmental and social goals.”
