Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Vientiane, Laos, where he was warmly welcomed by the Indian diaspora and local dignitaries, including Laos’ Minister of Home Affairs and the Mayor of Vientiane. His visit marks a decade of India’s Act East Policy and includes participation in the 21st ASEAN-India and 19th East Asia Summit.

Upon arrival, PM Modi interacted with the Indian community at Hotel Double Tree, where he was greeted with a traditional Bihu dance performance. He also joined prayers with Buddhist monks, highlighting the shared Buddhist heritage between India and Laos.

PM Modi observed conservation projects led by the Archaeological Survey of India, aimed at preserving historic temples like Vat Phou. He also enjoyed a performance of the Lao Ramayan, showcasing the cultural ties between the two nations.

India and Laos have a long-standing relationship, with India supporting various developmental projects in Laos, including the Lao-India Entrepreneurship Development Centre and Quick Impact Projects. The Mekong-Ganga Cooperation is a key element of India’s Act East Policy, promoting regional security and growth.
