In a recent address at the Kautilya Economic Conclave, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unique role in engaging with both Russia and Ukraine amidst their ongoing conflict. Jaishankar highlighted that PM Modi has met Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy three times and Russian President Vladimir Putin once in recent months, showcasing India’s efforts to find common ground between the two nations.

PM Modi’s visits to Russia in July and Ukraine in August, along with a meeting with Zelenskyy in New York during the 79th United Nations General Assembly, underline India’s commitment to facilitating peace. India has consistently advocated for sincere engagement among all stakeholders to develop solutions for the conflict that began in February 2022.

Jaishankar also addressed the complex situation in the Middle East, noting the challenges posed by multiple parties involved in the conflict. He acknowledged India’s role in bridging communication gaps between countries and emphasized the importance of India’s global responsibility.

During the Sardar Patel Lecture on Governance, Jaishankar expressed concerns over rising tensions in the Middle East, highlighting the impact on global trade due to increased shipping and insurance rates.
