During his visit to Laos, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presented various Indian artifacts to global leaders, showcasing India’s rich culture. These gifts included a brass statue of Lord Buddha from Tamil Nadu, a Patan Patola scarf from Gujarat, a colorful table with a hand-painted pot from Ladakh, and a Silver Nakkashi-work peacock figurine from West Bengal.

Gifts to Global Leaders

PM Modi gifted a pair of silver lamps with Jhalar Work to New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, highlighting Maharashtra’s artisanal heritage. He also presented a Silver Nakkashi work peacock figurine to Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, symbolizing beauty and pride in Indian culture.

To Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, he gifted a vibrantly colored wood table from Ladakh, accompanied by a hand-painted pot. The Prime Minister of Laos, Sonexay Siphandone, received a Kadamwood-colored embossed Buddha head, while the President of Laos, Thongloun Sisoulith, was gifted a vintage brass Buddha statue with intricate mina work.

Additionally, a Malachite and Camel Bone Box with a Radha-Krishna theme was presented to Vandara Siphandone, the wife of the Lao PDR Prime Minister. A Patan Patola scarf in a Sadeli Box was gifted to Naly Sisoulith, the wife of the President of Laos.

Summit Participation

PM Modi attended the 21st ASEAN-India Summit and the 18th East Asia Summit, meeting leaders from Laos, Thailand, and New Zealand. He also met South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Japan’s Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba. Upon arrival, he was welcomed with a Guard of Honour and interacted with the Indian diaspora in Vientiane.
