PM Modi, VP Dhankhar, and JP Nadda Discuss Manipur Issues in Parliament
Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar at Parliament House after the Rajya Sabha session. BJP National President JP Nadda was also present.
PM Modi addressed the Manipur violence in the Upper House, responding to opposition claims that he ignored the situation. He stated that the government is working to normalize the situation, with over 11,000 FIRs registered and more than 500 arrests made. He emphasized that schools, colleges, and offices are open, and both central and state governments are engaging with stakeholders to restore peace.
PM Modi criticized the Congress party for imposing President’s rule in Manipur 10 times and highlighted the Union Home Minister’s extended stay in the state. He warned against those trying to escalate the situation and mentioned that two NDRF teams have been sent to assist with the ongoing flood situation.
The northeastern state of Manipur has been experiencing ethnic violence since May 3, 2022, following a rally by the All Tribals Students Union protesting the inclusion of the Meitei community in the Scheduled Tribe category.
