PM Modi Visits Wayanad to Oversee Landslide Relief Efforts
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Kannur Airport on Saturday to visit landslide-affected Wayanad. He was welcomed by Governor Arif Mohammed Khan and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. PM Modi then traveled to Wayanad in an Air Force helicopter, accompanied by Governor Khan, Chief Minister Vijayan, and Union Minister Suresh Gopi.
The Prime Minister will conduct an aerial survey of the landslide-affected areas and visit on-the-ground locations to receive briefings from rescue teams. He will also visit a relief camp and hospital to meet with victims and survivors. Following these visits, PM Modi will chair a review meeting to discuss the incident and ongoing relief efforts.
Massive landslides hit Chooralmala and Mundakkai in Wayanad on July 30, causing widespread devastation. The district administration reported 226 bodies recovered and 403 body parts found. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has requested the central government to declare the landslides a national disaster. The Kerala state government is providing immediate assistance to affected families, including financial aid and daily allowances for those who lost their livelihood.
