PM Modi Visits Wayanad After Landslides, Over 1200 Rescuers Deployed
The central government has deployed over 1200 rescuers from the NDRF, Army, Air Force, Navy, Fire services, and Civil Defence to Wayanad, Kerala, following major landslides caused by heavy rainfall on July 30.
In Mundakki, Chooralmala, and Vellarimala Village, a 190-foot Bailey bridge was constructed in just 71 hours to facilitate the movement of heavy machinery and ambulances, aiding in the rescue of around 200 stranded people.
So far, 30 people have been rescued, 520 evacuated, and 112 bodies recovered. An Inter-Ministerial Central Team is visiting the affected areas from August 8 to 10.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Wayanad to oversee relief efforts, meet with victims, and chair a review meeting. The government has released significant funds for disaster response and mitigation, including Rs 395 crore in the Kerala SDRF account and Rs 145.60 crore as the first instalment of the central share of SDRF for the ongoing year.
