PM Modi Visits US: Meetings with President Biden and Quad Summit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Philadelphia International Airport on Saturday morning for a three-day visit to the United States. He expressed excitement about joining President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida for the Quad Summit. Meeting with President Biden
PM Modi will have a bilateral meeting with President Biden to discuss ways to deepen the India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. This partnership covers many areas, including defense cooperation, which was renewed for ten years in 2015 and designated as a Major Defence Partnership in 2016. The US is India’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade reaching USD 190.1 billion in 2023.
Quad Summit in Wilmington
The annual Quad Summit will be held in Wilmington, Delaware, President Biden’s hometown. This summit brings together leaders from India, Australia, Japan, and the United States to discuss regional security and cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. The last Quad Summit was held in Hiroshima, Japan, in May 2022.
Community Event and Business Roundtable
On September 22, PM Modi will address a community event for the Indian diaspora at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale. The Indian American community is significant, with about 4.4 million people of Indian origin residing in the US. PM Modi will also attend a Business Roundtable with CEOs of leading US companies in areas like Artificial Intelligence, semiconductors, quantum computing, and biotechnology.
Summit of the Future at the United Nations
PM Modi will travel to New York to attend the Summit of the Future at the United Nations on September 23. The theme is ‘Multilateral Solutions for a Better Tomorrow,’ and the summit will focus on issues like health, energy security, climate change, and economic inequalities. The outcome document, ‘Pact for the Future,’ will include the Global Digital Compact and Declaration on Future Generations.
