PM Modi Visits Poland and Ukraine: Strengthening Ties and Honoring History
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Warsaw, Poland, marking the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister in 45 years. He was welcomed by Deputy Foreign Minister Wladyslaw Teofil Bartoszewski. During his visit, PM Modi will meet with Poland’s Prime Minister and President and engage with the Indian community.
PM Modi will lay a wreath at the memorial of Jam Saheb Digvijaysinhji Ranjitsinhji, a former Maharaja of Nawanagar, who established a camp for Polish refugee children during World War II. He will also visit the monument to the Battle of Monte Cassino, commemorating the victory of the Second Polish Corps in 1944, and the Kolhapur Memorial, honoring the village that hosted Polish children in 1945.
Before departing from New Delhi, PM Modi expressed his hopes for stronger relations with Poland and Ukraine, as both countries mark 70 years of diplomatic relations. He highlighted Poland as a key economic partner in Central Europe and emphasized the mutual commitment to democracy and pluralism.
India’s Ambassador to Poland, Nagma Mallick, noted the growing bilateral trade turnover of about USD 6 billion, with significant Indian investments in Poland and Polish investments in India.
After his visit to Poland, PM Modi will travel to Ukraine at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, marking the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Ukraine.
