Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a rally in Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the upcoming Assembly elections will be a battle between three political dynasties and the youth of the region. He accused the Congress, National Conference (NC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of corruption and fostering terrorism for personal gain.

Three Dynasties vs. Youth

PM Modi stated, “This year, the elections to Jammu Kashmir assembly are going to be held between the dynasties and the youth of Jammu and Kashmir.” He blamed the three families for the region’s struggles and claimed they laid the foundation for terrorism and extremism.

Modi’s Guarantee

The Prime Minister pledged to work hard for a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir, stating, “Together we will build a safe and prosperous Jammu and Kashmir and this is Modi’s guarantee.” He highlighted the importance of the upcoming elections in deciding the future of the Union Territory.

Empowering the Youth

PM Modi criticized the political parties for not allowing new leaders to emerge and highlighted his efforts to bring forward new leadership since 2014. He mentioned the successful panchayat, BDC, and DDC elections held in recent years to strengthen grassroots democracy.

Changing Scenario

He pointed to the changing situation in Jammu and Kashmir, stating that terrorism is now “breathing its last.” He emphasized the development seen in the region, including the establishment of new schools and colleges.

Upcoming Elections

The Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir are scheduled for September 18, September 25, and October 1, with counting set for October 8. The elections will be held in three districts: Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. This will be the first election since the abrogation of Article 370.

Jammu and Kashmir has 90 Assembly constituencies, with 88.06 lakh eligible voters. In the previous elections, the PDP won 28 seats, BJP secured 25, NC won 15, and Congress won 12. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018.
