Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Team India for their victory in the T20 World Cup 2024, highlighting their excellent skills and spirit. India defeated South Africa by seven runs in the final held in Barbados.

Modi took to his official X account to express his admiration for the team. He praised captain Rohit Sharma for his aggressive mindset, batting, and captaincy, stating that Rohit’s T20 career will be remembered fondly. Modi also lauded star batter Virat Kohli for his performance in the final match, noting that T20 cricket will miss him but he will continue to inspire future players.

Additionally, Modi commended head coach Rahul Dravid for his incredible coaching journey, which has significantly contributed to the success of Indian cricket. Dravid’s dedication and strategic insights have transformed the team, and India is grateful for his contributions.

In the final match, India won the toss and chose to bat first. Despite an early setback, a strong partnership between Virat Kohli and Axar Patel helped India reach a total of 176/7. South Africa’s chase was thwarted by excellent bowling from Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya, restricting them to 169/8. Kohli was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his outstanding performance.

This victory marks India’s first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013, ending their ICC trophy drought.
