Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his happiness at meeting United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. He referred to the UAE President as “my brother,” highlighting their strong relationship. The two leaders had previously met in Abu Dhabi in February 2024.

PM Modi also had a “wonderful” meeting with Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation, trade, and cultural ties between India and Uzbekistan.

During the summit, PM Modi shared pictures with fellow BRICS leaders and emphasized the importance of welcoming new members to the group. He noted the potential of BRICS to contribute to a better and more sustainable world.

PM Modi also met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, discussing the significance of India-China relations for regional and global peace. After the summit, PM Modi returned to Delhi, having also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The BRICS leaders discussed strengthening multilateralism, countering terrorism, fostering economic growth, and addressing the concerns of the Global South. PM Modi called for a people-centric approach to tackle global challenges and stressed the need for a Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism at the United Nations.
