Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin during the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. PM Modi invited President Putin to India for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit next year. The leaders discussed cooperation in political, economic, defense, energy, and cultural sectors.

This was their second meeting this year, following the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit in Moscow. PM Modi thanked President Putin for hosting the BRICS Summit and praised Russia’s efforts in promoting multilateralism and sustainable development.

The leaders also discussed the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, with PM Modi emphasizing dialogue and diplomacy as solutions. They agreed to strengthen the India-Russia Strategic Partnership and looked forward to the upcoming India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission meeting in New Delhi.

PM Modi expressed gratitude for the warm welcome in Kazan and announced the opening of a new Indian consulate in the city. President Putin highlighted their strong relationship, joking that PM Modi doesn’t need a translator. PM Modi also enjoyed a cultural performance by Russian artists upon his arrival.
