PM Modi Meets President Putin: Talks on Russia-Ukraine Conflict and Receives Top Russian Honor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow. During their meeting, PM Modi expressed regret for the loss of lives in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and emphasized that the solution lies in dialogue and diplomacy, not on the battlefield.

Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra stated that PM Modi reiterated India’s willingness to support peaceful solutions to the conflict. PM Modi also received the Order of St Andrew the Apostle, Russia’s highest civilian honor, for his contributions to the strategic partnership between India and Russia.

The leaders discussed various topics, including economic cooperation, political ties, and multilateral engagements such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. PM Modi addressed the Indian community in Moscow, praising their role in strengthening India-Russia relations and announcing the opening of Indian consulates in Kazan and Yekaterinburg.

PM Modi and President Putin have met 16 times over the past decade, with their last in-person meeting at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, in 2022.
