PM Modi Meets President Putin in Moscow to Discuss Ukraine Conflict
Moscow [Russia], July 9: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is visiting Moscow for the first time since the Russia-Ukraine conflict began in 2022. During his visit, PM Modi will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. India has always emphasized the importance of respecting the UN Charter, including territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Sources indicate that India will convey to Russia that the solution to the Ukraine conflict cannot be found on the battlefield and that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward. This stance aligns with the views of the Global South, which also supports resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
US Department of State Spokesperson Matthew Miller mentioned that the United States encourages India to ensure that any resolution to the Ukraine conflict adheres to the UN Charter and respects Ukraine’s territorial integrity and sovereignty. Miller highlighted the significance of PM Modi’s recent meeting with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.
On Monday, PM Modi and President Putin had an informal meeting at Putin’s Novo-Ogaryovo residence. They discussed the prospects for further development of relations between India and Russia and the situation in Ukraine. The two leaders were seen taking a walk and conversing informally.
PM Modi expressed his gratitude to President Putin for hosting him and looked forward to the detailed discussions scheduled for Tuesday. He will co-chair the 22nd Annual Summit between India and Russia with President Putin. PM Modi will also lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Kremlin and visit the Rosatom Pavilion in Moscow.
Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov received PM Modi at the Vnukovo-II airport on Monday, where he was given a ceremonial welcome.
