PM Modi Honors Pingali Venkayya, Designer of the Indian Flag, on His Birth Anniversary
Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the Indian National Flag, on his birth anniversary. Modi praised Venkayya’s efforts in giving the nation the Tricolour and encouraged everyone to support the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ movement.
Pingali Venkayya’s Legacy
Born near Machilipatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 2, 1876, Pingali Venkayya designed many models of the national flag. In 1921, Mahatma Gandhi approved one of his designs during the Indian National Congress meeting in Vijayawada. The national flag we see today is based on his design. Venkayya was a passionate freedom fighter and became synonymous with the spirit of free and independent India. He passed away on July 4, 1963.
Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign
In his 112th ‘Mann Ki Baat’ on July 28, Prime Minister Modi called upon all Indians to take part in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign to celebrate Independence Day. He highlighted the growing trend of taking selfies with the national flag and sharing them on social media. He urged party leaders and workers to ensure that the national flag is hoisted on houses, offices, and shops from August 13 to August 15.
‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ is part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, an initiative by the Government of India to celebrate 75 years of independence. The campaign aims to invoke patriotism and promote awareness about the Indian National Flag.
