PM Modi Highlights Space Sector’s Role in India’s Future on Independence Day
New Delhi, August 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of the space sector in India’s development during his Independence Day speech from the Red Fort. He assured that reforms in this sector are aimed at strengthening the nation and achieving the goal of ‘Developed India-2047’.
Space Sector Reforms
PM Modi highlighted the vibrant growth of the space sector, noting the entry of many startups. He stated, “The space sector is an important aspect. We have done many reforms in this sector. Today, many startups are entering this sector.” He also mentioned the launch of private satellites and rockets, emphasizing the sector’s future potential.
Gaganyaan Mission
India’s first human space flight program, Gaganyaan, is set to launch in 2024-25. The mission will send a crew of three members to an orbit of 400 km for a three-day mission. The chosen Indian Air Force pilots for this mission are Group Captain Prashanth Nair, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, Group Captain Angad Pratap, and Wing Commander Shubhanshu Shukla.
Recent Achievements
In 2023, India achieved significant milestones with the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the Moon’s South Pole and the launch of Aditya-L1, India’s first solar mission. Future goals include setting up the ‘Bharatiya Antariksha Station’ by 2035 and sending the first Indian to the Moon by 2040.

The theme for this year’s Independence Day is ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047’, aiming to transform India into a developed nation by 2047.
