PM Modi Congratulates Indian Paralympians for Record Medal Haul in Paris
New Delhi, India – Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated India’s Paralympic athletes for their outstanding performances at the Paris Paralympics. He spoke with Ajeet Singh Yadav, Sundar Singh Gurjar, Sharad Kumar, Mariyappan Thangavelu, and Deepthi Jeevanji, who have all won medals.
PM Modi expressed his joy over India’s best-ever performance in the Paralympics, highlighting that their achievements have inspired the youth and increased the popularity of various sports. He encouraged the athletes to celebrate their victories regardless of the medal color, as they have made the country proud.
India has won 21 medals so far, including three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze. This surpasses the previous record of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021.
Recent Medal Winners
Para-athlete Sachin Khilari won a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final with a 16.32-meter throw. Avani Lekhara secured India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best of 249.7 points. Mona Agarwal won bronze in the same event.
Manish Narwal earned a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1, while Rubina Francis took bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol SH-1. Preeti Pal won bronze in both the 100m and 200m T35 events.
Nishad Kumar claimed silver in the men’s high jump T47, and Yogesh Kathuniya won silver in the men’s discus throw F56. The archery pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won bronze in the mixed team compound event.
Sumit Antil defended his gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 with a record-breaking throw. Nithya Sre Sivan won bronze in the women’s SH6 para-badminton category, while Nitesh clinched gold in the men’s singles SL3 category.
Thulasimathi Murugesan secured silver in the women’s singles SU5, and Manisha won bronze in the same category. Suhas lost in the men’s singles SL4 gold medal match.
Deepthi Jeevanji won bronze in the women’s 400m T20 final. Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu achieved a double podium finish in the men’s high jump T6 final, winning silver and bronze, respectively.
Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar also secured silver and bronze in the men’s javelin throw F46 event.
