PM Modi Celebrates India’s Record Medal Haul at Paris Paralympics
New Delhi, September 4: Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his joy as the Indian team at the Paris Paralympics surpassed their medal tally from the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. This achievement highlights the dedication, passion, and determination of the athletes.
The Indian contingent has won 21 medals so far, including three gold, eight silver, and ten bronze. This surpasses their previous best of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics, which included five gold, eight silver, and six bronze.
PM Modi shared his pride on X, stating, “India is proud and delighted! Our incredible Paralympic contingent has set a record for the highest-ever medals for our country in any Paralympics. This shows the dedication, passion, and determination of our athletes. Congrats to each and every player.”
Highlights from the Paris Paralympics
Para-athlete Sachin Khilari won a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 final with a 16.32-meter throw, setting a new area best. Para-shooter Avani Lekhara secured India’s first gold in the women’s 10m air rifle with a personal best of 249.7 points, while Mona Agarwal took bronze in the same event.
Manish Narwal earned a silver medal in the men’s 10m air pistol SH1, and Rubina Francis won bronze in the women’s 10m air pistol SH-1. Preeti Pal secured bronze in both the 100m T35 and 200m T-35 events.
Nishad Kumar won silver in the men’s high jump T47 with a 2.04m leap, and Yogesh Kathuniya took silver in the men’s discus throw F56. The archery pair of Rakesh Kumar and Sheetal Devi won bronze in the mixed team compound event.
Sumit Antil defended his gold in the men’s javelin throw F64 with a record-breaking throw. Nithya Sre Sivan won bronze in the women’s SH6 para-badminton, while Nitesh clinched gold in the men’s singles SL3 category. Thulasimathi Murugesan secured silver in the women’s singles SU5, and Manisha won bronze in the same category.
Deepthi Jeevanji won bronze in the women’s 400m T20, and Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu secured silver and bronze, respectively, in the men’s high jump T6. Ajeet Singh and Sundar Singh Gurjar won silver and bronze in the men’s javelin throw F46.
