PM Modi and World Leaders Unite at G20 Summit in Brazil
In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Prime Minister Narendra Modi joined Brazil's President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, China's President Xi Jinping, and other global leaders for a family photo at the 19th G20 Leaders' Summit. This photo was taken after the launch of the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty, an initiative praised by PM Modi.
The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, described the photo as "a photo for posterity," highlighting the theme "Building a Just World and a Sustainable Planet."
Earlier, PM Modi expressed support for Brazil's initiative, emphasizing the severe impact of food, fuel, and fertiliser crises on the Global South due to ongoing conflicts. He stressed the importance of prioritizing these concerns.
During the G20 session on 'Social Inclusion and the Fight Against Hunger and Poverty,' PM Modi shared India's achievements, including lifting 250 million people out of poverty in the last decade. He highlighted India's approach of "Back to Basics and March to Future," which has led to significant results in food security and women-led development.
India provides free foodgrains to over 800 million people and health insurance to more than 550 million people. Additionally, 60 million senior citizens will now be eligible for free health insurance.
PM Modi emphasized the importance of considering the unique challenges of the Global South in global discussions, noting the impact of global conflicts on food, fuel, and fertiliser availability. He reiterated India's commitment to reforming global governance institutions, as demonstrated by granting permanent G20 membership to the African Union during the New Delhi Summit.
