Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping are set to have a bilateral meeting on Wednesday during the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. This meeting follows an agreement between India and China on patrolling arrangements in eastern Ladakh.

Agreement on Patrolling Arrangements

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed the meeting and highlighted the recent agreement on patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the India-China border areas. This agreement aims to resolve issues that arose after the Chinese military’s actions in eastern Ladakh in 2020.

Efforts Towards Resolution

Misri explained that discussions with Chinese interlocutors and military commanders have led to this agreement, which is expected to lead to disengagement and resolution of the standoff. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also noted that the agreement would help restore the situation to its state before May 2020.

BRICS Summit in Kazan

PM Modi, who arrived in Russia on Tuesday, has already held meetings with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The 16th BRICS Summit is being hosted in Kazan.
