Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong discussed enhancing cooperation in various sectors during Modi’s visit to Singapore on September 4-5, 2024. This visit marks PM Modi’s fifth trip to Singapore.

Sustainability

Both Prime Ministers highlighted the potential for cooperation in Green Hydrogen and Green Ammonia. They also tasked their teams to work on a cooperation framework under the Paris Agreement.

Digitalisation

The leaders welcomed the signing of an MoU on Digital Technologies and agreed to deepen collaboration in data, AI, and cybersecurity. They also discussed establishing a bilateral Cyber Policy Dialogue.

Skills Development

Both Prime Ministers welcomed the signing of an MoU on educational cooperation and skills development, including the establishment of five skill centers in India.

Healthcare and Medicine

The leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation in healthcare, medical education, and research. They called for an early conclusion of an MoU on Nursing Talent Skills Corporation.

Advanced Manufacturing

They welcomed the signing of an MoU on the India-Singapore Semiconductor Ecosystem Partnership to develop resilient semiconductor supply chains.

Connectivity

Both leaders encouraged discussions to expand the bilateral Air Services Agreement to enhance air connectivity.

Other Highlights

PM Modi also met with Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Emeritus Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. Both leaders acknowledged the shared history and extensive cooperation between India and Singapore. They agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership’ as both countries prepare to celebrate the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations next year.
